Volkswagen Announces the Launch of Plug&Charge

Driving the all-electric ID.4 is about to get even easier. Volkswagen of America has announced a significant enhancement for its all-electric ID.4 EV, set to roll out this spring—the introduction of Plug&Charge functionality at Electrify America stations. This exciting addition promises greater convenience for owners, enabling seamless utilization of their included three years of 30-minute DC fast charging sessions plan.

Owners of the 2023 ID.4 can enjoy the peace of mind that comes with three years of included 30-minute charging sessions at Electrify America DC fast chargers, bolstering range confidence. Electrify America, boasting over 900 stations and more than 4,000 chargers across North America, is the largest open DC fast charging network. Moreover, it’s the first to offer Plug&Charge technology to compatible vehicles.

With the forthcoming integration of Plug&Charge functionality in early 2024, the charging experience will become even more seamless. By activating this feature in the Electrify America app, owners can streamline their charging process—simply plug in the ID.4 at an Electrify America DC fast charging station, and charging will commence automatically once the connection is established. Additionally, when charging a Volkswagen ID.4 on the Electrify America DC Fast-Charging network, the energy delivered to the vehicle is sourced from 100% renewable energy, aligning with Volkswagen’s commitment to sustainability.

Available with two battery sizes and powertrain options, the 2023 ID.4 offers versatility to suit various preferences, starting with a competitive MSRP of $38,995 for the ID.4 Standard model equipped with a 62 kWh battery, offering an EPA-estimated range of 209 miles. Meanwhile, the ID.4 Pro, featuring an 82 kWh battery and an EPA-estimated range of 275 miles, starts at $43,995. Both models are powered by a single permanent magnet synchronous motor, delivering 201 horsepower to the rear wheels. The ID.4 AWD Pro models, starting at $47,795, introduce an additional asynchronous motor to the front axle, elevating power to a maximum of 295 horsepower and enabling all-wheel-drive capability, with an EPA-estimated range of 255 miles.

Enhanced charging capabilities further elevate the ID.4’s appeal, with the 2023 ID.4 Standard and S offering a 140-kW DC fast-charging rate, while Pro models equipped with the larger 82 kWh battery offer a faster 170-kW DC fast-charging speed. This enables all ID.4 Pro trims to DC fast charge from 10-80% SOC in around 30 minutes.
